7th day Mürren to Zurich, hotel near airport
Friday:
Murren to Zurich CHF 30-44/person (Murren to Grutschalp, Gruschalp to Lauterbrunnen, Lauterbrunnen to Interlaken Ost, Interlaken Ost to Zurich HB)
Holiday Inn Express Zurich Airport is 10 min from Rümlang train station. Breakfast is included. CFH8/person shuttle to airport. I got 2 single beds for each of the two rooms because the double bed looked really small for 2 people.
There are luggage lockers in the Bahnhofplatz, but people say they are often full. There are 3rd party lockers somewhere near. The text in black is what we knew when we got there. The lockers were indeed full. We found the place where you can pay by the bag to store luggage, but they closed at 6p, and we weren't going to be able to do that.
Possible things to do in Zurich:
Will we get to Zurich before lunch time? Should we eat on the train? 2.75 hours. If we leave at 9a, we'll get to Zurich by noon. Sham is a Syrian restaurant next to the train station and gets good reviews. They have Mezze, vegetarian options, and meat kebabs. https://www.restaurant-sham.ch/_files/ugd/8083f5_1203baf18a04463583cae2222b67884a.pdf

See chocolate store in train station. Walk through old town.
self-guided chocolate tour of Zurich: https://swissfamilyfun.com/chocolate-tour-zurich/
1. Confiserie Bachmann "The chocolate shop is known for its chocolate river staircase and chocolate waterfall wall upstairs." "Bachmann is known for their Schutzengeli (aka guardian angel) chocolate truffles, served on little golden wings. " The chocolate river staircase and chocolate waterfall were impressive and the pralines were great. We did not try the ones with wings.
Augustinergasse is a medieval street, part of old town, walking-only on the street We did walk through here and it was lovely
Max Chocolatier
Schlüsselgasse 12, 8001 Zürich In Zurich, they have a small boutique on a cobblestone lane in the old town, near St Peter’s church. "They change their praline flavors four times a year, so you’ll always have a good reason to go back. They usually have two vegan pralines, which are super delicious – no compromises on flavor." This one was our favorite. They didn't have as many options to pick from, but when you are only buying one or two (and they are fantastic), who cares about the 28 other flavors you weren't going to chose anyway.
"Teuscher" "They are best known for their champagne truffles, which are sold individually and in lovely gift boxes. My family loves their candied oranges dipped in chocolate, the best we’ve ever had." We tried the champagne truffles here. Some of us liked them, some didn't. They really do taste like chocolate covered champagne
Conditorei Schober is by the river and is pretty "At the cafe, they serve their signature hot chocolate" Their coffee is also good quality. But if we skip it and walk by Grossmunster, then we walk along Munstergasse which is part of old town. We skipped this so we could check out Grossmunster and Fraumunster.
Located on the west bank of the Limmat, the Fraumünster Church with its green steeple is one of Zurich's most prominent landmarks. Particularly renowned are the glass windows by Marc Chagall and Augusto Giacometti. We paid to go inside. No photography is allowed inside, but a brochure is included with the price of admission which has photographs.
self-guided walking tour of Zurich: https://jennamorrissey.com/zurich-walking-tour/ We modified this largely as shown in the map below, except we skipped the Natural History museum because it turns out the museum my daughter wanted to see was the Saurier Museum in Aathal, 37 miles outside Zurich. She was thrilled with the Saurier Museum and its private collection. The rest of us were not familiar with the work and struggled to stay interested because the information in the museum was all in German which we don't speak.
Take ferry to cable car, take train or bus back to hotel near airport. Zürich Bürkliplatz (See) to Kilchberg (see) Ferry. It is too early for advanced booking. Kilchberg bus to Aldiswil, Aldiswil cable car to Felsenegg. Adliswil (Luftseilbahnstation) to Felsenegg Because of going to the Saurier museum out of town, we didn't have time for this.
Where to eat dinner in Zurich:
https://www.hotelbourbon.ch/menu1 has a good mix of veggie and meat dishes and I see people in the photo wearing tank tops and sneakers. It is a 10 min walk from the Natural History museum. This restaurant was fantastic. My daughter was happy that they had more than one vegetarian option, the guys were happy with their sausages (bratwurst and hotdog in Paris which was really good), and I loved my spicy shrimp. I was stuffed, but they ordered beignets with caramel sauce for dessert. They were amazing.

https://fullsuitcase.com/bern-best-things-to-do/ says "Bern is its medieval Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is beautifully located, high on a cliff with the sparkling blue waters of the Aare River on three sides. But it’s the beautiful buildings, colorful flags, and traditional fountains that make it picture-perfect." $100 for 4 of us to do a 1.5 hour walking tour (in English) of old town
Or self-guided:
the Child Eater Fountain (Kindlifresserbrunnen), dating back to the 16th century.
The iconic Clock Tower (Zytglogge), a symbol of Bern's medieval heritage, features a mesmerizing astronomical clock.
Bear Pit
Bernmunster: for a fee you can climb the tower for a view of the city
Rosengarten (rose garden with great views of the city)
